Knowledge Space Lab

Externally funded project

Knowledge Space Lab

The project “Knowledge Space Lab - mapping knowledge interactively” contributes to the new research area of mapping and modelling of science. The project addresses the difference between representing scholarly knowledge in (external) classification systems (such as thesauri, ontologies, bibliographic systems) and “internal” representations based on data- and user-tagging (such as network analysis, user annotations/tagging, folksonomies). The project team consists of a postdoc with a natural sciences background (Krzysztof Suchecki), a postdoc with a social sciences/humanities background (Almila Akdag Salah) and a scientific programmer (Cheng Gao). The project leader is Andrea Scharnhorst.
The wider research team is formed by Paul Wouters; Charles van den Heuvel (both VKS); and Loet Leydesdorff (UvA) and Katy Boerner (Indiana Univ).
It is funded by a grant of the KNAW Strategiefonds.
